Contacts

2/24/07: we apologize; the website email addresses have been overwhelmed with spam when new spambots broke our (simple) javascript concealment, and volunteers have rebelled. So we have deleted those contact addresses.

We are also in the process of transitioning to new website management. Right now (believe it or not) the best way to contact AlbanyLIB members is leaving a note on the bulletin board near the beach. (Address notes to "Albany Let It Be.")

Directions to the Albany Landfill

The Albany Landfill is located on the north side of the Golden Gate Fields race track, close to where Highways 580 and 80 join.

From the north (Richmond, Pinole): Go south on Hwy 80. Take the Central Ave. exit in El Cerrito. Turn right (as if you were going to Costco). Go over the Hwy 580 overpass, and then make a left turn onto the Hwy 580 entrance. Immediately move to the left lane and exit at Buchanan Street/Albany. Turn right...

From the south (Oakland, Emeryville): Get onto Hwy 880. As you go past Berkeley, move to the right lane. Take the Buchanan St/Albany exit (right after the Gilman St exit). Turn left at the signal, and then drive directly towards the bay...

From North Berkeley and Albany: Take Marin St to the west. It turns into Buchanan St at San Pablo Ave; continue west through the highway interchange...

...You'll see the racetrack parking lot on your left; do not enter on racing days unless you want to pay. At the end of the road, parking for the Albany Landfill is on your left, stretching about 150 feet. After 4pm the gate at the end of the road sometimes is open to allow parking near the beach.

Map of the Albany Landfill

The Albany Landfill has four parts known as

  • The Albany Beach (owned by state)
  • The Plateau (owned by state)
  • The Neck (owned by Albany and state)
  • The Bulb (where most artwork is--owned by Albany)

The entrances to the Landfill feed off the Bay Trail along Buchanan St. This portion of the Bay Trail is owned and maintained by City of Albany.

This map (see below, or download the gif file to print) shows the major trails—but it is for you to discover the myriad little trails, with their many surprises.

Enjoy your explorations!
